about
“A sense of wonder is a gift that can be preserved and shared with others to bring joy to life.”
Welcome! I am Kate, and I am so glad you are here! Bloem Handcrafted Studio was named in honor of my Dutch heritage. The Dutch word "bloem" translates to "flower" as well as "beauty."
My pieces are handcrafted with materials that are of the highest quality possible including recycled precious metals. Each piece is truly one of a kind. My work is inspired by my love of traveling and exploring the beauty of nature. I find joy in tiny, often overlooked details; I love finding leaves, seeds, fossils, and other natural textures and capturing them with metal clay. Fired metal clay pieces are combined with traditional metalsmithing techniques to create jewelry that will ground you and help you connect with your favorite places.
I make my own reuseable molds from fossils, plants, flowers, and shells that I have found in nature. I handcast each piece of jewelry with recycled fine silver metal clay. After firing the metal clay components, many of my designs are soldered together using traditional metalsmithing techniques. I carefully patina and hand polish each piece of bloem handcrafted jewelry, working through several stages to get the perfect shine.
I choose to work with fine .999 silver because it does not tarnish as the more familiar .925 sterling silver does, which means your pieces will hold their finish for decades. Bloem Handcrafted pieces are created with great care, and will last for generations.
“The quality of the fern earrings I bought for myself, my niece, and sisters is amazing. I love that you can even see the texture of the fern spores in the silver! You can tell how unique each piece is, and that makes every item she sells even more special.”
