"A sense of wonder is a gift that can be preserved and shared with others to bring joy to life."
-Rachel Carson
Welcome! I am Kate, and I am so glad you are here!
My pieces are made with the highest quality materials, and I choose recycled precious metals wherever possible. Bloem Handcrafted pieces are created with great care, and will last for generations.
My work is inspired by my love of traveling and exploring the beauty of nature. I find joy in tiny, often overlooked, details in nature. I love finding leaves, seeds, fossils, and other natural textures and capturing them with metal clay and traditional metalsmithing techniques to create jewelry that will ground you and help you connect with your favorite places.
Bloem Handcrafted Studio was named in honor of my Dutch heritage. The Dutch word "bloem" translates to "flower" as well as "beauty."
My process involves using my hands and the highest quality materials at every step.
I make my own molds from fossils, plants, flowers, and shells that I have found in nature. I handcast each piece of jewelry with recycled fine silver metal clay. After firing, many of my designs are soldered together using traditional metalsmithing techniques. I carefully patina and hand polish each piece of bloem handcrafted jewelry, working through several stages to get the perfect shine. I choose to work with fine .999 silver because it does not tarnish as the more familiar .925 sterling silver does, which means your pieces will hold their finish for decades. Finally, I hand wrap ear wires for the perfect simple finish.
